News 08.05.2025

Dear participants of the Quooker PPP German Open 2025 in Oldenburg, with this newsletter we would like to send you further information and ask you to pay attention to the dates included!

The base classes have now been finalised

In a video conference yesterday, the tournament organisers determined the base classes for all participants for the German Open.

The base class is the class in which all participants have been placed based on their playing strength and which is also decisive for the order of the seeding lists for the individual competitions.

The base class indicates the lowest tournament class in which a player can play in the singles, doubles and mixed competitions. A player can be upgraded in one or more competitions, i.e. start in a higher class, but not in a lower one.

The base classes had to be introduced this year because this year, for the first time, the doubles and mixed classes are based on the classification of the higher of the two partners. And it would be unfair if a player who actually belongs in class 3, but voluntarily wants to start in class 2 in singles, would therefore also have to start in class 2 in doubles and mixed. Now his base class is 3, and he can play in class 2 in singles (if he wants to), but still in class 3 in doubles and mixed, where he also belongs in terms of performance. Or he can start in class 3 in singles, but in a higher class in doubles or mixed.

How were the base classes determined?

Players with a TTR value:

For players with a Q-TTR value from February 2025, which is based on at least ten singles matches played, it was the simplest: Here, the procedure was based exclusively on the TTR table, which was announced in the announcement in paragraph 8 DIVISION INTO THE TOURNAMENT CLASSES. Previously, for players whose first PD diagnosis on the day before the tournament was 15, 20 or even 25 years ago, the corresponding 75, 150 or 225 points were deducted from the TTR value.

If a player had a Q-TTR value that was based on fewer than 10 individual matches, i.e. was not particularly meaningful, the first step was to see which class the player would end up in. If this was then identical to the desired class specified by the player, this became the base class. In some cases, however, the specified desired class was one lower. In this case, the player was then classified according to his desired class because the Q-TTR value is still too imprecise.

Players without a TTR value:

For the new players who do not yet have a TTR value at all, the old four-component method was used, in which the four parts self-assessment of TT ability (60 %), self-assessment of Parkinson’s impairment (20 %), age (10 %) and duration of Parkinson’s disease (10 %) are included. The maximum number of points here is 100 and means that the player must be rated relatively highly.

Those with a score of more than 80 points were placed in class 1, those with more than 50 points in class 2, and all others in class 3. Once again, the principle applied here was that if a player had less than 50 points but had indicated that they wanted to play in class 2, the desired class was taken.

For players who did not submit a self-assessment when registering, the maximum possible number of points for the missing components was used.

What happens now in singles?

All players can now look up their base class in click-TT. The link for this is: https://www.mytischtennis.de/clicktt/TTVN/turnierkalender/turnier/668160/

If you select a tournament class in the ‘Teilnehmer’ column, you can see which participants have been assigned to this class.

All players should now check whether they want to play singles in this base class or whether they want to compete in a higher class. They should then inform hmeyer@ttvn.de by next Wednesday, 14 May 2025, in which higher class they want to play in the singles. They will then be moved to the higher class for the singles without changing their base class. Those who wish to play singles in their base class do not need to send a mail.

Five players have already indicated that they do not want to compete in the singles (Daniela Beurer, Manuela Kania, Manuel Lopez, Stefan Ganse and Dietmar Einerhand). Nevertheless, they are currently listed in click-TT in the singles so that they can check their base class. However, they will be removed in good time before the draw.

What about doubles and mixed?

At the same time, players can start thinking about who (and in which class) they want to play doubles and mixed. This must be registered in the second half of May, but not yet. Further information will follow. Please do not register doubles or mixed beforehand!

Tournament licence still missing

Three players still do not have a tournament licence and are therefore not yet eligible to compete. Therefore they could not be registered in one of the six single classes. This is only possible for players with a tournament licence. The players in question are Christophe Barthelemy, Andreja Süß and Abdelkader Tahar. For these players, the final deadline for acquiring a tournament licence is also 14.05.2025, otherwise their place in the tournament will be forfeited without replacement.

Accreditation and training on 28.05.

We would like to ask you to plan the accreditation for 28 May 2025 between 12:00 and 17:00 in the sports hall Diedrich-Dannemann-Str. 85, Wardenburg. During this time, it will also be possible to practise there on 20 tables.

The Magic Tischtennis team from Bremen, Sascha Greber and Cristian Tamas, will also be on site. They offer to complete your equipment and train with Cristian Tamas. Our catering team will take care of your physical well-being.

Accreditation on 29 May 2025 is only possible in exceptional cases and by prior arrangement with Stefan Ganse at go@pingpongparkinson.de!
